It is important to select the right bolt carrier group for your build. The major difference in BCG’s is the coating. Nickel Boron (NiB) coatings are silver in color and considered by many to be superior. Black nitride coatings are less flashy, less expensive and easier to keep clean. The .223, 5.56 and 300 Blackout use the same standard AR-15/M-16 bolt while the less common 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC and .458 SOCOM require a different bolt with a larger bolt face. Left handed builds require left handed BCG’s.
Lightweight BCG’s like the JP reduce reciprocating mass and also the overall weight of the rifle. They are common in competitions where the shooter needs to fire rapidly to achieve the highest possible score. Typically these low mass rifles are tuned to suit the shooter and the specific ammo he or she is using. Standard weight BCG’s are trusted by the U.S. military to fire reliably with a wide variety of ammunition in many different conditions. |
